In March, Friends of Bishopstone Station received two awards at the National Community Rail 25th annual awards ceremony in Newcastle. They came first in ‘It’s Your Station’, recognising the community projects and work that we run, including Meet up Mondays, Man Space, the Community Food Project and the station gardens. They also won the small projects award for the popular History Weekend that ran last August.
Every Monday at Friends of Bishopstone Station, Meet up Mondays take place from from 10am to 1pm. This is a community drop-in and pop-up pantry supplied by Havens Food Coop and the gardens of our guests and volunteers. Every month there are free and confidential advice sessions from Citizens Advice, Ovesco Eneregy and Simpsons solicitors.
The Friends of Bishopstone Station Community Food Project helps promote food equality through opportunities for food and gardening education. The popular herb garden troughs are coming back into their productive season and are there for everyone one to take cuttings. There is one trough at the front of the station and a larger wooden planter on the station platform, which along with various other garden features are tended by the volunteer gardening team. If you want to join the team, get in touch with Friends of Bishopstone Station (see contact details below).
